Hi /r/pokemontrades! Recently, we've noticed quite a few users branching out to Twitter and other platforms for trading. While this is a great way to expand your collection (especially considering all the events that NA has received lately), it's also much more difficult to safely trade for legitimate Pokémon.
Since Pokémon originating from other platforms are increasingly being offered here, we decided to put together a wiki page for you to use as a resource:
In addition to detailed information about what to look for when trading for Pokémon you intend to retrade on /r/pokemontrades, you'll also find:
- Tips on getting started with trades off-site
- Advice about trading etiquette and making fair offers
- Questions to ask if you want to trade for legitimate Pokémon for personal use
Depending on what we see, we may occasionally ask questions to double check the details of a Pokémon in order to ensure that users were careful in their trades.
Please keep in mind that we do not vouch for the legitimacy of any Pokémon. If you see us asking questions and eventually allow the Pokémon to be traded, it does not necessarily mean that the Pokémon is legitimate. As always, use your best judgement when trading for valuable Pokémon.
While we're open to allowing Pokémon obtained from outside sources to be traded here, it can be complicated when large amounts of rare events show up or when hacks and clones are found. When that occurs, we can only hold the person who brought them into the subreddit accountable.
In order to be as transparent as possible, issues regarding Pokémon obtained from outside sources may lead to one of two scenarios depending on the severity:
- A temporary or permanent ban.
- A temporary ban on all events obtained from outside sources.
Thank you for reading through this post! Feel free to discuss your thoughts in this thread and provide any tips you may have when trading on other platforms if you have experience there.
TLDR: Review this wiki page if you plan to offer Pokémon obtained from outside sources on /r/pokemontrades.
