[Rebuild Tuesday] Electivire

Hello everyone!

Welcome to this week's edition of Rebuild Tuesday, a weekly event we're doing along with our Discord!

The goal of this event is for you guys to get a chance to rebuild a Pokemon once a week! What do we mean by that? Well we will be looking to find Pokemon who just can't seem to find a niche in their tiers or the current competitive scene and finding ways to revitalize them! This means thinking about new moves, stats, or typings that help give the Pokemon in question a new role.

This week's Pokemon is Electivire

#466 Electivire (Japanese エレキブル Elekible)

Thunderbolt Pokémon

It pushes the tips of its tails against its foes and then lets loose a high-voltage current. Its foes are burned to a crisp in an instant. When it gets excited, it thumps its chest. With every thud, thunder roars and electric sparks shower all around.

Electivire's Base Stats:

  • HP: 75
  • Attack: 123
  • Defense: 67
  • Sp. Attack: 95
  • Sp. Defense: 85
  • Speed: 95

Introduction:

  • Electivire is a pretty cool Pokemon. If you ever need to charge your iPhone, this is your go-to Pokemon. As far as its competitive usage goes, it's definitely a unique Electric-type. It has a great attack stat and it even has a passable special attack, making it optimal as a mixed attacker. It also has a good movepool to help it out, so what's holding it back? It struggles to function as a proper wallbreaker, it is surprisingly frail, and it struggles far too much against the common Ground-types. Most Electivire sets run mixed Life Orb attacker with all coverage moves such as Ice Punch, Earthquake and Flamethrower.
  • Electivire actually started at OU in gen 4 when not much was able to take a hit from it. It dropped to RU in gen 5 when more Pokemon spawned that could deal with it, such as Crustle and its eventual replacement, Eelektross. It dropped again to NU in gen 6, gaining nothing much to help it out.
  • In gen 7, Electivire drops yet again all the way to the bottom tier, PU. Electivire's strengths are its great attack stat, its passable special attack and speed, its coverage, and a useful ability in Motor Drive, granting it immunity to Electric attacks and boosting its already decent speed. Electivire's flaws are its inability to break walls on either the physical or special side, its mediocre defenses (especially physical defense), and being unable to deal with a large portion of Ground-types who are either bulky enough to take one hit from it and retaliate with Earthquake or can just outspeed and OHKO it anyways.

What changes (e.g. new moves, stats, abilities or typings) would you give to Electivire to give it a fair shot in the OU meta?

In addition to ways to make this Pokémon competitively viable again, feel free to discuss your likes and dislikes about this Pokemon, be they from your playthroughs of the main series or side games, your success or failure with this Pokemon competitively, any cool fan artwork (with the source) featuring this Pokemon that you'd like to share, or anything else!

We'd also suggest checking out our Discord each Tuesday for live discussion on these topics as well!

Voting options for next week's Pokémon will be edited in here and we'll run a one day poll tomorrow before announcing the winner on Thursday. This will then give you some extra time to think of how to revamp the winning Pokémon before the next Rebuild Tuesday rolls around. For today though, PM me (/u/SnowPhoenix9999) if you have any recommendations for a Pokémon that could use a rebuild!
